L.A. Requires Condom use by Porn Performers

People in the adult film industry are required to wear condoms while performing now that the Los Angeles City Council has given final approval to a city ordinance.

Around 90% of porn films are produced in the Los Angeles area.  Primary in the San Fernando Valley area.

Rallying for years the L.A. based AIDS Healthcare Foundation has won a major victory with the 9-1 vote on Tuesday.  In recent years porn shoots have had to be suspended because of high-profile HIV infection situations.

It is a great day for supporters that hope this will bring cleaner and healthier sex to the porn industry.  Porn industry representative are very disappointed  in the final vote.  They say that filming will move elsewhere and that the politically correct move is going to hurt the industry during a time when competition and a stagnant economy are already hurting the adult entertainment industry.

Filmmakers say they already police themselves.  Actors and actresses are required to get sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing every 30 days before working.  They also say that no direct HIV case has been linked to a porn films in LA since 2004.

The AIDS group will continue to support the law and is considering launching another condom law in San Francisco.

Do you agree with the new law?
