Private STD Testing: Everything You Need to Know

At Same Day STD Testing, we believe that everyone has the right to fast, confidential STD tests when they need them. Regular testing is crucial to long-term STD prevention. What’s more, early diagnosis of certain STDs can allow medical professionals to manage or even cure potentially dangerous infections. However, many people are reticent to get tested for STDs because of the stigma associated with them. Thankfully, it is possible to find private STD testing options that ensure your confidentiality throughout the entire process. Here’s everything you need to know on the subject:

At-Home STD Tests

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to go to the doctor’s office to receive STD testing services. In some instances, you can conduct the test by yourself in the privacy of your own home. Some sites sell these kits on-line for quick access. Swabbing is easy and painless –– all you have to do is collect a sample and mail it to your local Quest lab. We’ll take care of the rest!

Private Testing Options

While at-home STD tests are very convenient, they are limited in their scope. If you want to make sure you’re entirely STD-free, you’ll need more extensive testing. There are a few ways you can go about getting tested. First, you can ask your doctor to perform the tests. Note, most doctors won’t perform STD tests as a part of regular physical examinations (including pap smears). So you’ll have to make a special request to get tested. It could take several days (or more) for your doctor to access the tools they need to conduct the tests as well.

Second, you can choose to get tested at a free clinic like Planned Parenthood. However, these locations are often crowded, you may have to wait in line for several hours before you can get tested. In addition, you’ll be required to bring a photo ID, as well as your insurance card. A quick note here: though some insurance providers do cover STD testing, STD tests conducted through your insurance will appear on your permanent medical record.
